Carlson’s Llovable Llamas, a llama farm in Waconia, was voted Waconia Patriot Readers’ Choice for Birthday Parties. Owner Rick Carlson was recognized as the 2017 HERO Coalition’s Super Samaritan for going above and beyond to provide a meaningful experience for the youth in Waconia. Rick leads the most popular and successful 4-H llama program in the state and his llamas are beloved by the kids that “rent” them. Rick’s llamas are a local favorite. During Waconia’s Homespun Holidays, he dresses his llamas in reindeer costumes for the tree lighting ceremony. Zorro, one of Rick’s most dapper and suave llamas, was the male star in an eHarmony commercial.

J. Carver Distillery is following the lead of its namesake Jonathan Carver as a pioneer, frontiersman and a leader. In the new world of artisan distilleries, J. Carver is succeeding at defining itself. American Craft Spirit Awards recently awarded J. Carver a silver for their Lake House Vodka, and bronze awards for their Barrel Gin, Apply Brandy, Hunt Club Double Barrel Rye Whiskey, and Sevilla Liqueur. J. Carver recently introduced three additional handcrafted spirits, Brickyard Straight Bourbon, Runestone Straight Rye, and Island View Brandy. Each is distilled and aged in Minnesota barrels at the distillery’s grain-to-glass facility in Waconia. The distillery is a favorite for its friendly staff, contemporary atmosphere, distillery tours, excellent spirits, fun cocktail classes and dinner pairing events.

The Andrew Peterson Farm, part of the Carver County Historical Society, is a destination location for researchers, Swedish tourists, historians and a growing number of locals since its grand opening in 2016. The farm is significant in part for Andrew Peterson’s pioneering work with apples and his incredible journals which he kept from the time he left Sweden until the day before he died in Minnesota. Work on one of the historic barns was completed in 2017.

Lions Baseball Field arguably the nicest ballpark in the area. “A baseball gem,” “amazing,” “unbelievable” and “holy cow” are just a few of the comments people have made when entering Lions Field, home of the Waconia Islanders, Waconia Lakers, Waconia Senior Legion, Waconia Junior Legion, Waconia Mickey Mantle and the Waconia Varsity and JV Wildcats. The field has a brand new grandstand and updated field. This is a home run venue.
