Harvesting Connections

Strategic networking is essential for business growth! Many of our members see the chamber events as a way to meet local business owners, prospective clients, and community leaders.

At our September Strategic Networking luncheon, participants had the opportunity to begin to build valuable relationships that can open doors to new connections, partnerships, and resources.

By connecting, we can gain valuable insights, and also strong friendships. By being present, networking also strengthens brand visibility and enhances credibility.

I often get asked for referrals, members look for other fellow like-minded and community-focused people to do business.

5 Tips for Strategic Networking

1. Be Authentic & Genuine

Be yourself. It’s really easy to pick up on someone who does not feel genuine. Approach networking with a sincere curiosity about others. Authenticity creates lasting relationships.

2. Prepare a Personal Elevator Pitch

When reaching out, clearly explain who you are, what you do, and what sets you apart. It helps to make a strong first impression.

Concise Introductions Matter
At our most recent Strategic (and speed) Networking event, we had 90 seconds to deliver our pitch. A clear and concise introduction helps to make a meaningful connection in a short time frame.

3. Actively Listen

This tip is extremely important; being an attentive listener helps to identify potential collaboration opportunities quickly. You’ve heard the WIIFM acronym- “What’s in it for me?” Whenever meeting with a prospective client, always listen first to determine how to best provide value.

Be sure to align with their priorities. Giving (advice, information, or referrals) before expecting something in return helps to build stronger relationships.

4. Bring Business Cards or Digital Contact Info

Sharing contact information helps to keep the momentum going. Make sure the person knows how to connect with you again.

5. Prioritize Follow-Up

During luncheons and Coffee Connections, the networking conversations can be short. Follow-up after the event is crucial to continued meaningful conversation. We have the best coffee shops, restaurants, and libation places to follow-up and nurture relationships!

CRM software or a simple spreadsheet can also be a way to help stay organized by tracking contacts, conversations, and follow-ups. Being pleasantly persistent can help to maintain meaningful connections over time.

The chamber calendar is full of opportunities to build your network. We hope to see you at our next event!

Stay connected, grow strategically, and thrive!
