Chamber Advocacy: Working with Elected Leaders to Champion Local Business

At the Chamber, advocating for our members is a key initiative. Through close connections with city, county, and state elected leaders, we work diligently to stay informed and support business-friendly initiatives, economic growth, and a thriving community.

Whether it be working locally to champion efforts to make it easier and more competitive to do business, or meeting with our state legislators to discuss policy impact on small businesses; our advocacy efforts focus on addressing real challenges faced by businesses. By engaging with our elected officials, we’re able to communicate the needs and concerns of our members, making sure that the voice of our local business community is represented in critical policy discussions.

We’re committed to being a unified voice for our members, advocating for policies that support economic growth, community development, and a business-friendly climate. Our role as advocates helps ensure that the needs of local businesses are heard on matters that impact their operations and growth.

A Look at Chamber Advocacy Efforts

Local Partnerships: The Chamber hosted a city and county luncheon, a candidate forum luncheon, and participated in City Council and County Commissioners meetings to advocate on issues like growth and business policy. We have a strong voice at the table in county initiatives on topics of parks & trails, public health, Highway 5 transportation, housing, and childcare. We also meet regularly with our school superintendent and city administrator on topics that impact the community as a whole.

State Representation:
From visits to the Capitol to hosting the Statewide Policy Tour in Waconia, the Chamber collaborates on priorities like workforce mandates and statewide funding needs, helping our members navigate mandates and opportunities. Through our partnership with the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce and Minnesota Retailers Association, we share upcoming pertinent information and resources with our members. Federal Engagement: As part of our advocacy work, we stay up to date on federal priorities affecting our members, and are members of the US Chamber of Commerce.

Get Involved in 2025

As we plan our 2025 calendar, we’re looking for members passionate about advocacy and community involvement. If you’re interested in working with issues at the city, county, or state level, we’d love to connect. By working together, we can ensure our business community’s collective voice and values are heard.

As the election season comes to an end, I’d like to express gratitude to all the candidates who took the brave step to engage and serve our community by running for office. A commitment to public service strengthens our community, and we look forward to continued collaboration that supports a thriving business environment.
